Project Title: Empowering Civil Society Organizations for Climate Justice and Resilience in Zanzibar

Project Goal:

To create a resilient Zanzibar where empowered civil society organizations (CSOs) lead climate justice advocacy, promoting equitable, sustainable, and climate-resilient communities.

Ultimate Outcome:

A resilient Zanzibar where empowered CSOs actively lead climate justice advocacy, fostering equitable and sustainable communities capable of facing climate challenges​

    Zanzibar-based CSOs enhance their institutional capacity and advocacy skills, enabling them to effectively lead climate justice initiatives
  2. Increased Community Awareness
    Local communities demonstrate a greater understanding of climate justice, fostering a collaborative environment for sustainable practices​.

    CSOs gain enhanced knowledge and skills in climate justice, equipping them to engage in policy analysis, advocacy, and community education.
  2. Enhanced Community Understanding
    Local communities increase their awareness and understanding of climate resilience and justice principles, laying the foundation for community-driven change.

Output 1: Capacity-Building Workshops, Webinars, and Coalition Building

    • Activity 1.1: Conduct five regional climate justice workshops, targeting 250 participants across youth, women, and indigenous communities. These workshops aim to establish five regional climate platforms.
    • Activity 1.2: Organize quarterly workshops to empower 50 indigenous members in each region with advocacy tools and coordinate regional climate justice platforms.
    • Activity 1.3: Hold policymaker meetings to amplify CSO voices in climate justice and participate in national exhibitions to engage stakeholders​

 

Output 2: Networking Events

    • Activity 2.1: Host annual forums for 100 CSO members and community representatives to foster collaboration, idea exchange, and partnership development for collective climate justice initiatives

      Output 3: Community Workshops and Discussions

      • Activity 3.1: Host 11 district-wide climate awareness workshops, engaging 550 participants on climate resilience and justice.
      • Activity 3.2: Conduct six discussions in indigenous communities, involving 300 participants in climate justice initiatives​.

 

Output 4: Media Campaigns

    • Activity 4.1: Launch six public awareness campaigns over six months via radio, TV, and social media, reaching 200,000 individuals with climate-resilient practices and justice principles​.

 

Output 5: Policy Advocacy

    • Activity 5.1: Provide mentorship and training to 50 community leaders on climate policy advocacy to promote local involvement in climate justice policy​.
  • Primary Beneficiaries:
    CSOs in Zanzibar, local communities (including youth, women, and indigenous groups), policymakers.
  • Secondary Beneficiaries:
    Broader Zanzibar society, indirectly impacted by enhanced climate justice and resilience efforts.
  • Short-term Outcomes Evaluation: Pre- and post-workshop surveys, community feedback sessions, and skills assessments.
  • Intermediate Outcomes Evaluation: Annual reports on CSO advocacy activities and community engagement metrics.
  • Ultimate Outcome Evaluation: Long-term impact assessment through community surveys and climate resilience metrics after project completion.
